“At its inception, the Department of Education was created to ensure equal access to educational opportunities for all students by providing federal support and oversight to remove barriers to equitable access to learning and achievement, and abolishing it requires an Act of Congress,” said Rep. Espaillat.

"Regarding the case of Mahmoud Khalil, a constituent who lives in my district, my office has been following this case closely and as a former green card holder, I expect the Department of Justice to work within the confines of the law and that due process is guaranteed to him and his family. The rule of law must be respected."
