Government Shutdown Update

A Message from Representative Adriano Espaillat to NY-13 Constituents

Dear Friend,

The Republican health care crisis is raising costs and the Republican shutdown is causing pain across America. Instead of negotiating a bipartisan agreement to solve these problems, the only thing Donald Trump is doing is weaponizing hunger.

Today, Trump and Republicans have marked the longest shutdown in the history of our nation due to this administration’s failure to work with Democrats, and the effects are having a resounding impact across New York City. Federal employees continue to work without pay, while SNAP benefits, which will now be partially disbursed, still faces uncertainty in the weeks ahead.

The following are resources for constituents of New York’s 13th congressional district:

If you immediate food assistance:

    •    Use the NYC Food Finder or Food Bank for NYC Food Map to locate food pantries and free meals.

If you currently receive SNAP:

    •    You will be notified about the status of your November SNAP benefits by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) through the OTDA website, NYC ACCESS HRA, myBenefits, the ebtEDGE app, or by text.

    •    Any unused benefits will remain available after November 1—you can check your EBT balance at ebtEDGE.com or through the app.

    •    Continue completing the required steps like recertifications and periodic reports to stay eligible.

As New Yorkers, we are stronger together, and we know that we deserve better than the chaos and havoc we are witnessing from the Trump administration and Republicans.

I vow to continue my efforts to combat these hurtful policies and my Democratic colleagues and I are ready, willing and able to quickly reach a bipartisan agreement that reopens the government, ensures SNAP benefits are paid, and lowers health care costs for all who are counting on us during these unprecedented challenges.

Sincerely,

Adriano Espaillat
Member of Congress
