NEW YORK; USA.– Washington congressman of Dominican origin, Adriano Espaillat, and leaders of the Harlem community issued the following statements demanding justice in the murder of college basketball star Darius Lee and the mass shooting that left eight people injured “After hearing news of the shooting this weekend in Harlem, I immediately contacted law enforcement to ensure that there is an immediate investigation into the murder and untimely death of Darius Lee and the shooting that left several injured people in our community,” said Rep. New York City is quite literally a city built by immigrants, and proudly so as it celebrated the 10th anniversary of former President Barack Obama’s historic Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. U.S. Rep Adriano Espaillat (D-Harlem) said, in a separate conference, that DACA has been transformative to the lives of young immigrants, but “the program falls short of a pathway to citizenship” and “is by no means a substitute for fixing our broken immigration system.”
