"Our hearts are broken and there are simply no words to express the impact of this tragedy. We must do all we can to support asylum seekers and families--in this critical time when so much and so many lives are at stake," said Espaillat. "I urge all levels of government to continue to work in partnership to provide services, including mental health, nutrition, education and housing for our New Yorkers."

“New York City is welcoming and compassionate. As a right to shelter city, we have a moral and legal obligation to provide asylum seekers the right to seek refuge—and we will never turn anyone away, whether they are fleeing authoritarian regimes like that of Maduro or violence in Ukraine, our city and this nation will and must welcome refugee families,” said Rep. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) will host the President of the Dominican Republic, the Honorable Luis Abinader, during a meeting with congressional leaders at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, September 15th at 10:00 a.m. (EDT).

During the meeting, Rep. Espaillat and President Abinader will be joined by House Democratic Leadership, members of the Friends of the Dominican Republic Caucus, House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

NEW YORK, NY – Earlier this month, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) sent a letter to U.S. Federal Transit Administration Associate Administrator Felicia James urging the agency to expedite the Federal Transit Administration’s review of the Second Avenue Subway project Phase II.

Communities in New York have longed for this transit extension since the 1970s, and an expedited review could provide the opportunity for the MTA to enter an FTA Capital Investment Program full funding grant agreement by the end of the year.
