Statement from Representative Adriano Espaillat on President Biden’s Executive Action to Curb Gun Violence in America

March 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in response to the Biden Administration latest actions to address the gun violence epidemic in America:

“Today, during his visit to Monterey Park, California, President Biden took historic actions to reduce gun violence and save lives through an Executive Order to increase the number of background checks conducted before firearm sales and putting our nation one step closer to ensuring universal background checks,” said Rep. Espaillat. “The President’s Executive Order will keep more guns out of dangerous hands by increasing the effective use of ‘red flag’ laws, strengthening efforts to hold the gun industry accountable, and accelerating law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend the shooters menacing our communities.

“Gun violence and mass shootings have affected far too many families around our nation, including in my congressional district. President Biden has taken more executive action to reduce gun violence than any other president at this point in their presidency, including the implementation of key provisions of my ghost gun legislation to address the proliferation of these deadly untraceable weapons in cities across the country.

“I commend President Biden on today’s actions and vow to continue my legislative efforts to end gun violence and help save lives in my district and in communities around the nation counting on us for comprehensive reform.”
