February 1, 2022

NEW YORK, NY— Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement in recognition of Black History Month and to announce the upcoming virtual event honoring leaders from New York’s 13th congressional district for their commitment and dedication to the African American community.

“This month, we honor black history and celebrate both the accomplishments and the sacrifices made by African Americans throughout the history of our nation that have helped strengthen and shape who we are today,” said Rep. Espaillat. “We take this time to remind ourselves that black history is American history and runs deep through the fabric of our nation and is deeply rooted throughout my district, rich with a culture of inclusion and diverse heritage, particularly in Harlem, which is recognized around the nation as the mecca for Black culture.

“We honor the courageous civil rights activists who have challenged and changed the course of our history through their actions and recognize the many African Americans who continue to carry the torch of equality, justice and freedom still today – Black history is one of resiliency and perseverance and serves as an inspiration to individuals of all backgrounds from around the nation,” he concluded.

Join Rep. Espaillat and African American luminaries from New York’s 13th congressional district on Thursday, February 10th at 6:00 p.m. during a virtual program on Facebook honoring African American heritage and contributions throughout the district.
