REPRESENTATIVE ADRIANO ESPAILLAT RECOGNIZES INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

January 27, 2022

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the liberation of the Nazi death-camp at Auschwitz in 1945 and reflect on the atrocities committed towards Jewish people during World War II,” said Rep. Espaillat. “We honor the memory of the six million Jews whose lives were taken and the profound contribution that they made to the societies of which they were a part. On this solemn day, we acknowledge the traumatizing memories carried by Holocaust survivors and the lessons they seek to impart through their courage, wisdom, and perseverance.

“The Holocaust serves as a reminder to never lend ourselves to the dehumanization of others or to the denial of their rights – and to never cease in our fight to defend freedom and ensure equal protections for all. We cannot afford to tolerate anti-Semitism or allow white supremacy to proliferate – and it remains incumbent upon all of us to act against the dangerous ideologies that threaten the foundation of our democracy, our institutions and stability as a nation. “Never again” means never again, and this must involve each of us, during our lifetimes, in the unremitting effort to dismantle hatred, confront injustice, and stand against all forms of bigotry.”
