Representative Adriano Espaillat to Host Post Office Renaming Ceremony in Honor of the Late

August 3, 2021

Saturday, August 7th, 2021 from 12:00pm - 3:00pm (EDT)

NEW YORK, NYRepresentative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) will host a post office renaming celebration at the Audubon USPS Post Office at 511 West 165th Street in New York City in Washington Heights in honor of the late Normandía Maldonado. Rep. Espaillat will also be joined by state and local elected officials, including City Councilmembers Mark Levine and Ydanis Rodriguez, as well as State Assemblymembers Carmen De La Rosa and Al Taylor.

This renaming comes after the passage of H.Res.3870, sponsored by Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), signed into law to rename the United States Postal Service facility at 511 West 165th Street in New York, New York, to officially be known as the "Normandia Maldonado Post Office Building."

"Ms. Maldonado was a true pioneer – she advanced and elevated the Dominican culture tenfold through her creative work, activism, and community organizing," said Rep. Espaillat (NY-13). "Her influence can be traced across the diaspora – and, especially in New York City where her memory still looms and her work continues to flourish and inspire. With the official renaming of the post office off 165th Street after the passing of my bill, I am certain Ms. Normandia Maldonado's achievements and legacy will continue to inspire the people of New York City and the greater Dominican diaspora for generations to come."
