Rep. Adriano Espaillat Leads Educational Collaboration Between CUNY, SUNY and the Dominican Ministry of Higher Education

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) is pleased to announce a joint collaboration with the State University of New York (SUNY), the City University of New York (CUNY), the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic (MESCYT) and the New York State Education Department, which will be finalized during a signing of the Memorandum of Understanding at 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the SUNY Global Center located at 116 E 55th Street, New York, NY 10022.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to promote bilateral higher education among the educational institutions within the Dominican Republic and New York, and Rep. Adriano Espaillat was delighted to play a significant role to help bring this new collaboration to fruition. The educational program will focus on training and scientific research with a concentration in energy, environment, management and mitigation of disasters, information and communication technologies, language, arts, humanities, social, natural sciences, agriculture and higher education studies.

"Education plays a critical role in upward mobility for students and teachers, and this holds especially true for vulnerable and low-income communities," said Rep. Espaillat. "It remains critical that we work together to ensure a solid foundation for innovation, progress, and achievement to better prepare our students and teachers for a global competitive society today and in the future. I am proud of the work with have accomplished to bring forth this agreement that will have a tremendous benefit on students today and future students with the SUNY, CUNY system."

MÁXIMAS ENTIDADES EDUCATIVAS DOMINICANAS Y NEOYORQUINAS FIRMARÁN ACUERDOS EN COLABORACIÓN CON EL CONGRESISTA ADRIANO ESPAILLAT

El nuevo programa garantiza preparación educativa para los casi 40,000 estudiantes dominicanos actualmente inscritos en SUNY y CUNY

NEW YORK, N.Y. – El viernes, 7 de diciembre de 2018, a las 4:00 pm TDE, en el SUNY Global Center, localizado en el 116 East de la calle 55, Nueva York, NY, con la colaboración del congresista Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), el Ministerio de Educación (MINERD) y el Ministerio de Educación Superior, Ciencia y Tecnología (MESCYT) de la República Dominicana, firmarán acuerdos de cooperación con la Universidad del Estado de Nueva York (SUNY) y la Universidad de la Ciudad de Nueva York (CUNY).

El propósito de los acuerdos es promover la educación superior bilateral entre las instituciones educativas dentro de la República Dominicana y Nueva York, y el congresista Adriano Espaillat se siente honrado de ayudar a llevar a cabo esta nueva colaboración. El programa educativo se centrará en la capacitación y la investigación científica con una concertación en materia de energía, medio ambiente, gestión y mitigación de desastres, tecnologías de la información y la comunicación, idiomas, artes, humanidades, ciencias sociales, ciencias naturales, agricultura y educación superior.

Las palabras de bienvenida del acto de firma de los acuerdos estarán a cargo del presidente de la Junta de Notables de SUNY, H. Carl McCall, con intervenciones del congresista Adriano Espaillat; el presidente de la Junta de Notables de CUNY, William Thompson; la ministra del MESCYT, Alejandrina Guzmán; el cónsul general de la República Dominicana en Nueva York, Carlos Castillo; y el viceministro de Planificación y Desarrollo del MINERD, Víctor Sánchez.

"Me siento honrado de colaborar en la firma de estos acuerdos entre las máximas entidades de educación de la República Dominicana y los sistemas de universidades locales y estatales de Nueva York", dijo el congresista Adriano Espaillat. "La firma de estos acuerdos beneficiará tanto a los estudiantes dominicanos como a los de Nueva York, a los maestros y profesores, y fortalecerá el intercambio de información, tecnologías y recursos entre estas importantes entidades educativas".
