Rep. Adriano Espaillat Joins Congressional Leaders to Launch the Saved by American Immigrants National Taskforce (SAINT)

April 27, 2017

SAINT provides a direct counter-perspective to VOICE and will highlight positive contributions of immigrants to the United States

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) joined with Reps. Jared Polis (CO-02), Norma Torres (CA-35), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), and Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) to announce the Saved by American Immigrants National Taskforce (SAINT). The taskforce will collect and share stories of documented and undocumented immigrants who have positively contributed to society through heroic or lifesaving acts.

"I am proud to join my colleagues as a co-leader of the Saved by American Immigrants National Taskforce (SAINT), as a direct and positive response to the Trump administration's policies to, once again, attack the immigrant community," said Rep. Espaillat. "SAINT will highlight the positive contributions that immigrants make to communities across the country to help and save Americans."

Statistical data indicates that the U.S. foreign-born population is far less likely than the U.S. native-born population to commit crimes. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, from 1980 through 2010 male non-citizens between the ages of 18 to 49 were one-half to one-fifth less likely to be incarcerated for a crime.

SAINT was created to counter the false and negative claims put forth by the Trump administration that immigrants are dangerous and will instead focus on the heroic efforts and contributions immigrants make to society across the United States.
