New York Governor Kathy Hochul to Join Representative Adriano Espaillat As 2024 State of the Union Address Guest
Espaillat is Proud to Welcome Hochul to the SOTU during Women’s History Month, as the First Female Governor to Represent the State of New York
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) announced that New York Governor Kathy Hochul will join as his guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Thursday, March 7.
Kathy Hochul is the 57th and first female Governor of New York State. Since being sworn into office in 2021, Governor Hochul has led by establishing a bold vision for New York’s future and has spearheaded comprehensive policies and initiatives to help New Yorkers and their families, while building an economy that is stronger and more inclusive than ever.
“President Biden and House Democrats have lowered health care costs, cancelled student debt to grow the middle class, defended reproductive freedom, and delivered historic benefits for America’s veterans,” said Rep. Espaillat. “I have witnessed firsthand the impact of the President’s leadership to my district and the state of New York. I am proud to welcome Governor Hochul as my guest to this year’s address as an extraordinary partner in public service who exemplifies our shared commitment, dedication, and fight for New Yorkers. This year’s State of the Union falls on March 7, commemorating the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The violent, unjustified assault caused widespread indignation and served as a driving force behind the civil rights movement. Congress approved the Voting Rights Act, one of the most successful civil rights bills in our country's history, just five months after Bloody Sunday. However, there is much more to be done. Governor Hochul is committed to advancing racial justice and expanding access to the ballot box to make it easier for all to vote in local elections. She is a national leader in improving voter participation and engagement in communities across our state.”
"Tomorrow, President Biden will deliver his State of the Union address and present his vision for the year to come. There's so much at stake for New York: federally-funded transit projects like the next phase of the Second Avenue Subway, lowering costs for families in New York and across the nation, and addressing immigration and border security after House Republicans killed President Biden's sensible bipartisan compromise. That's why I'm honored to accept my friend Congressman Espaillat's invitation to join him in the Capitol as his guest for the State of the Union. We're proud of the strong partnership between New York, our leaders in Congress and the Biden Administration and look forward to continued partnership," said Governor Hochul.
Governor Hochul is making historic investments for New Yorkers and her support of the people, places, and things that make our state unique. As we kickstart Women’s History Month, Governor Hochul exemplifies the work on behalf of working families and their impact to our communities. And in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s reckless decisions to strip away reproductive choice and strike down commonsense gun regulations, Governor Hochul continues to lead New York’s efforts to protect reproductive health care and strengthen gun safety laws, ensuring our state continues to stand as a beacon of hope and freedom for the rest of the nation.
This year’s State of the Union Address will highlight the historic achievements that House Democrats and President Biden have delivered and share an optimistic vision of putting People Over Politics to lower costs, grow the middle class, make all our communities safer, and defend our fundamental freedoms.
