ADVISORY: CONGRESSMAN ADRIANO ESPAILLAT HOSTS 2018 NATIONAL SUMMIT OF THE LEAGUE OF DOMINICAN-AMERICAN ELECTED OFFICIALS

NEW YORK, N.Y. – On Saturday, May 19th starting at 10:00 a.m. ET, Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) will host the 2018 National Summit of the League of Dominican-American Elected Officials, bringing together more than 50 Dominican-American elected officials, executives, directors and Dominican-American presidents of local, state and national nonprofit organizations. The event will be held at the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Riverview Terrace, located at 173 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, NY 10032.

Members of the League of Dominican-American Elected Officials and leading Dominican-American political figures from around the nation will be in attendance.

Confirmed keynote speakers include renowned Dr. Ramona Hernández, director of the Dominican Studies Institute of CUNY, who will discuss the demography and social development of Dominicans in the United States; Rolando Acosta, Presiding Judge of the Appeals Division of the First Judicial Department of the Supreme Court of New York, who will talk about the state of the judiciary in New York City; Juan Cartagena, president of Latino Justice, who will discuss the 2020 Census, redistricting and other related topics; José Calderón, president of the Hispanic Federation, who will address DACA, efforts to protect Dreamers, TPS, and comprehensive immigration reform.

This event is open to the public and members of the press. Registration is required to attend.

Los oficiales electos convocados forman parte de la Liga de Oficiales Electos Domínico-Americanos (The League of Dominican-American Elected Officials), quienes son figuras preponderantes en los procesos políticos de Estados Unidos y ocupan posiciones de liderazgo en numerosos estados de los Estados Unidos.

La cumbre se realizará en dos sesiones, de 9:00 am a 3:00 pm TDE, y entre los oradores principales estará la doctora Ramona Hernández, directora del Instituto de Estudios Dominicanos de CUNY, quien disertará sobre demografía y desarrollo social de los dominicanos en los Estados Unidos. Así como Rolando Acosta, Juez Presidente de la División de Apelaciones del Primer Departamento Judicial de la Corte Suprema de Nueva York, quien hablará sobre el estado de la judicatura en la ciudad de Nueva York; Juan Cartagena, presidente de Latino Justice, quien disertará sobre el Censo, redistribución de distritos y otros temas afines. Y José Calderón, presidente de la Federación Hispana, que tratará diversos temas, entre los que figuran DACA, los Soñadores (Dreamers), TPS, y Reforma Migratoria Integral.
