Statement from Representative Adriano Espaillat Recognizing National Immigrants Day

October 28, 2021

Espaillat serves as Co-Chair of the New Americans Caucus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), co-chair of the New Americans Caucus, released the following statement in recognition of National Immigrants Day:

“The United States of America is a nation of immigrants, and today is not only about Dreamers, TPS holders, essential workers, and farmworkers, but it’s about who are as Americans and what we stand for as a country,” said Rep. Espaillat. “This National Immigrants Day, I am proud to stand in solidarity with immigrants in this country who have contributed to the strength of our economy and diversity of our communities.

“Immigrants are not only our essential workers, healthcare workers, small business owners, and farmworkers – they are our neighbors, our grandparents, our brothers and our sisters. Many of them put their lives on the line during the pandemic and showed up when we needed them the most. They have waited thirty-five years for us to live up to America’s promise, and the time has come for us to fulfill that promise and ensure the American dream remains accessible to all."

"I vow to continue my fight during this once-in-a-generation opportunity to demand lasting protections for immigrant communities, and I call on my colleagues in the House, the Senate, and the White House to find our collective will to pass legislation that includes meaningful immigration reform for the millions of immigrants who call this country home.”
