Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Tour Designated Location to House Asylum Seekers to the City

WASHINGTON, DCRepresentatives Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) announced they will lead members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) on Friday, September 15th, on a congressional member trip to New York City to assess facilities designated to support and house recently arrived asylum seekers.

Espaillat and Ocasio-Cortez will be joined by Reps: Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Nydia M. Velazquez (NY-07), Jerrold Nadler (NY-12), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), Rob Menendez (NJ-08), Dan Goldman (NY-10), and Mike Quigley (IL-05).

During the trip, members will meet with administration officials to discuss the city’s response to new arrivals, as well as hear from service providers currently offering support to asylum-seeking families upon their arrival. The purpose of the trip is to provide a firsthand opportunity for Members of Congress from around the nation to observe New York City’s coordinated response to the influx of new arrivals and advocate for effective federal solutions.
