REPRESENTATIVE ADRIANO ESPAILLAT MARKS THE BEGINNING OF ROSH HASHANAH

September 27, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in recognition of the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah, which begins sundown this Sunday:

"Staring at sundown this Sunday, our brothers and sisters throughout the Jewish community celebrate the start of the High Holy Days, beginning with the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. It is a time for family and friends, to gather together and reflect on the hardships, achievements, special occasions and moments of happiness that this past year has brought us. We recall the challenges and adversities that our country and the Jewish community have been through, working together to overcome them and being grateful for the blessings we have received. It is a time for inner renewal and forgiveness, for ourselves and those we have wronged, and we pray for love and reconciliation with those with whom we have differences. Rosh Hashanah is a time to look forward, to define our new year resolutions with a positive attitude and start contributing to a better future. It is time to build a stronger and more united community to face the challenges that are yet to come, while we celebrate the lives we are fortunate enough to live. As we mark the start of the holiday, I extend a warm and sincere shanah tovah u'metukah to the Jewish community throughout New York's 13th congressional district. May your New Year be full of health and happiness, and may we all enjoy a sweet year to come."
