May 8, 2024

Espaillat Introduced H.R. 6852 the Holcombe Rucker Park Commemorative Site Act earlier this Congress to Preserve the Park's Legacy

Bill Now Heads to the U.S. House Floor for Bipartisan Consideration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in recognition of passage of his bill, H.R. 6852, the Holcombe Rucker Park Commemorative Site Act, out of the Natural Resources Committee, making it eligible for floor consideration and a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"I am appreciative of the House Committee on Natural Resources for favorably passing my bill, the Holcombe Rucker Park Commemorative Site Act, out of committee and look forward to working with my colleagues to advance this significant measure through the House, Senate and ultimately into law," said Espaillat. "The Holcombe Rucker Park Commemorative Site Act will preserve America's basketball mecca in Harlem, New York and continue to empower youth for generations to come. I look forward to next steps to bring this bill on the House floor for a vote in the near future."

The Holcombe Rucker Park Commemorative Site Act would give federal recognition to the historic park named after Holcombe Rucker, a WWII veteran, scholar, mentor, and coach. Designating Holcombe Rucker Park as a national commemorative site acknowledges its historical importance and reaffirms the cultural contributions the park has made to the fabric of Harlem, New York and the broader American narrative.
