Espaillat Statement on Expansion of Affordable Healthcare to Dreamers

May 3, 2024

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) touted the Biden Administration’s effort to expand affordable health care coverage to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.

“Dreamers contribute to their communities and our nation, the only nation many of them have ever known and have called home, and they deserve health care just like all of us,” said Congressman Adriano Espaillat. “I commend the Biden-Harris Administration on this latest effort to support immigrant families by expanding affordable, quality health care coverage to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. Dreamers are our loved ones, our nurses, teachers, and small business owners, and today’s effort will enable eligible DACA recipients to enroll in Affordable Care Act coverage for the first time, helping more than 100,000 young people gain health insurance, including 35,000 in New York.

“Our work today to support Dreamers will have reverberating implications for many years to come, keeping our communities and local economies strong. I will never give up my fight to ensure Dreamers permanent status and a pathway to citizenship and remain committed to working with President Biden and my colleagues to protect DACA and provide all immigrant youth with the opportunities and support they need to succeed.”
