Advisory: Representative Adriano Espaillat, Democratic Caucus Leaders Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of DACA
Press Conference today at 2PM Livestreamed on Facebook
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Pete Aguilar (D-CA), members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and the Democratic Caucus, will hold a press conference at 2:00 p.m. EDT to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the DACA program.
Members will discuss the program’s life changing impact to DACA recipients and their families, the accomplishments, and contributions of immigrant youth and urge their Senate colleagues to pass permanent protections for undocumented youth and their families. This is weeks before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is set to hear oral arguments in a case that will determine DACA’s future viability.
The DACA program has shielded more than 830,000 young people from deportation and allowed them to work, study and pursue their dreams in their home country. Dreamers have had an indelible impact on the nation. Approximately 9 out of every 10 Dreamers are currently employed and/or enrolled in school.
House Democrats have proudly championed the success of the program and the contribution of Dreamers by passing H.R. 6 in the last two Congresses and the Dream Act in the 111th Congress.
