WASHINGTON, DC — Co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Latino-Jewish Caucus, Representatives Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and Tony Gonzales (R-TX), issued the following joint statement marking the passage of two years since Hamas’ October 7th terrorist attack:
On October 1, 2025, the federal government shut down because Donald Trump and Republicans would not agree to legislation that kept government open while lowering health care costs.
A government shutdown means that thousands of federal workers in New York and across the country have been furloughed, our beautiful National Parks have been forced to close to visitors, and our troops and federal law enforcement are working without pay.
That is unacceptable.

Dear Constituent,
I wanted to contact you about a potential government shutdown and my ongoing work to protect vital services. Unfortunately, extreme conservatives are trying to force a shutdown, which would begin on October 1, to further Donald Trump's extreme ideological agenda.
